The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Peter Mbah, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner of the March 18 governorship election in Enugu State. According to the results, announced by the Returning Officer, Prof Maduebibisi Ofo-Iwe, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Mbah secured 160,895 votes, edging out his closest rival, Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party (LP), who scored 157,552 votes. Uche Nnaji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came third with 14,575 votes.
With this victory, Mbah has become the governor-elect of Enugu State, much to the delight of his supporters and party faithfuls. The election was keenly contested, with various political parties and candidates vying for the coveted position of governor. However, Mbah’s victory is a testimony to his hard work and unwavering commitment to the people of Enugu State.
It is interesting to note that the Enugu State Governorship election was one of the most closely watched and fiercely contested elections in the country. With a total number of 333,675 registered voters, the election witnessed an impressive turnout of voters, with over 319,000 voters casting their ballots.
With the results of Enugu State Governorship election now out, the total number of states whose governorship elections have been announced stands at 26 out of 28 states. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won in 15 states, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 9, and the Labour Party (LP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won one state each. The election results in Kebbi and Adamawa states are still being awaited.
