Following the recent issues of building collapse, the Lagos State Government has taken drastic measures.
According to the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSTML), some molding factories in Ikorodu axis of Lagos state has been sealed off. This is due to the lack of quality materials used for molding blocks.
In a statement released by the General Manager of the Agency, Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi, the State Government has embarked on a serious campaign to searchlight molding industries and put an end to the building collapse issues witnessed in the state.
Therefore, any block industry that fails to meet the stipulated demands would be sealed off. In addition, LSTML would begin issuing out seals, to particular operators in a bid to control quality production.
Afolabi said ”
“In the course of the enforcement exercise, eight block-molding industries were visited while seven were sealed for not meeting the required standards. We also took samples of the blocks produced from each factory, tagged and moved them to the Agency laboratory for testing, which will be done in the presence of the owners to ascertain the strength of the blocks”.
“The source of the water used for mixing the materials was also questioned and samples were collected to be tested at the Agency’s Laboratory,” he added.
Mr. Afolabi equally appeals to the members of the public to contact the agency in case of illegal activities done by block molding factories in Lagos State. It was equally stated, that the new exercise would be a continuous routine across all Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas of all states.
