Don Jazzy was born to a father from Delta state and from the Isoko tribe to be precise and his mother, a princess from Abia State. Don Jazzy’s real name is Michael Collins Ajereh and he was born on the 26th of November 1982 Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria. His parents later moved down to Ajegunle Lagos where he was raised and attended the Federal Government College of Lagos.
In his desire, to become an icon when it comes to music, he decided to start his music career as early as possible by learning how to play the bass guitar. He later went to the Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Edo state where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business Management Studies.
In 2000, he was given an invitation from his uncle in London so, he decided to grace the invitation and went ahead to stay with his uncle in London. While in London, he decided to become security personnel for McDonald’s, just to earn a living. This was the little beginning for the now globally-recognized producer.

Don Jazzy’s early music career began in 2004 when he decided to start a record label called Mo’Hit with his friend D’banj. Under this label, they were able to produce hit songs like “no longer”, “on down” and even albums like the Entertainer by Dbanj, “ Mushin to Mo’Hit” by Wande Coal and acted as a backup singer for music sounds for singers like Dr. Sid, even Jay Z, Kanye West, and Beyonce.
We can see that Don Jazzy has a humble beginning before growing into the iconic star we know him to be. When he began Mo’Hit with the Dbanj, he also began to push his popular catchphrase “its Don Jazzy again” which became his major intro in every song. Under his record label Mo’Hit, he signed artists like Wande Coal, Kayswitch, D’Prince, and others. Altogether, they were able to make nice hit songs as a group and individually.
Career 2017 To Date
Aside, from moving to London and starting a record label with Dbanji, Don Jazzy also gave a guest appearances in a certain Nigerian movies. When Mo’Hits record label and band broke up in 2012, Don Jazzy didn’t just set back and fold his hands, he started a new label called Mavin records. He said his new record label would become one of the most recognized labels in Africa and it became one.
Under this record label, he was able to sign artists like Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Dr. Sid, Wande Coal, Korede Bello, Dija, Ladipoe, and Johnny Drille. Together, they were able to create master hits as a group and produced beautiful songs for each of the individuals. He began with a new intro song titled “I am Mavin” to promote the label and music band.
Aside from doing that, he also started a Mavin League, which helped to promote the label. Under the supervision of Don Jazzy, they released songs like Surulere, Dorobucci, Adaobi, and singles. It is also important to know that, Don Jazzy was given an invitation from Kanye West, to work on his album “Lift off”. Which, served as a career boost for the Producer, because he was also allowed to work with Jay Z and Beyonce.
