Senator Dino Melaye, a spokesperson for the Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, has called for the resignation of Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Melaye made the demand via his Twitter account, citing Yakubu’s alleged role in rigging the recent presidential election in favor of the ruling party.
The call for Yakubu’s resignation follows the Peoples Democratic Party’s call for an investigation into the electoral body for alleged manipulation of the results. In response, Yakubu’s Press Secretary challenged the PDP to provide evidence to back up their claims and maintain that the INEC does not rig elections.
Senator Melaye, however, insists that Yakubu must resign, describing him as a referee who scored a goal in a match and “superintended over a criminal enterprise yahoo yahoo INEC.”
