Transfer MTN Number Data Amount and then Send to 131 – For instance, Transfer 0803xxxxxxx 5MB and Send to 131.

Be sure to give space between every detail. 

It is good to note that before you can transfer or share data with your family or friends, you must have at least 50 MB as your data balance. So, text 2 to 131 to check.

Data Bundle Plans That Support Data Transfer

Not all data bundle plans support data transfer. So, below is the list of data bundle plans that you can share with your family and friends.

Please, note that the data plans listed above are for a month validity period. To subscribe to any of the plans, just send a  text message to the respective activation codes.

Points To Note About MTN Data Gifting

  • You are only allowed to transfer twice daily.
  • You are allowed to transfer data for your family and friends.
  • You are permitted to buy data for your family and friends.
  • You can demand data from your family and friends too.
  • Your data should not be less than 50 MB after each transfer.
  • You can transfer that ranging from 10 MB, 50 MB, and 100 MB.
  • You are only permitted to buy or gift data from your daily, weekly, and monthly plans.
  • You can not gift data from your XtraValue bundle.
  • You are not required to have a PIN to run the transfer process.

How To Buy MTN Data For Your Family And Friend

To buy data for either your family or friends, just dial: 

*131*Bundle Activation Code*Beneficiary’s MTN Number# and press Send.

Though, before trying to buy data for your family or friends, note that MTN will charge you from your airtime. And it is also vital that you check the whole MTN data plans before buying data.

  • Dial *460#  or send 460 to 131 to migrate to the SME Plus Service Class.
  • Ensure that your airtime balance (on the mobile phone you are using) will pay the cost of the data bundle you want to buy.
  • Ensure that you pay for the actual data share bundle by sending the keyword that matches the plan you want to buy.

How many times a data can I transfer data in a day

You can transfer data to your friends and family about twice daily. However, the amount would not exceed 100 MB

Will  I require a PIN to use for the MTN’s Gift Data Service?

No, you don’t need to have a PIN to share data on MTN. all you need is your beneficiary’s phone number and then choosing a data plan to use the service.

Will I pay an additional fee or cost for using MTN’s Gift Data Service?

No, you will not pay any additional price to gift or purchase data when buying for your friend.

If I am gifted data, can I auto-renew on the day of the expiry?

You can only auto-renew the data bundle purchased for you by sending an opt-in keyword to 131. However, the bundle that was transferred to you will not auto-renew and be valid till the expiry date. 

Data Of The Beneficiary/ Shared bundles Expire Together

Whenever an individual shares a data bundle with any of his family or friends, the data bundle of the beneficiary will expire the same day as when the sharer’s original data bundle expires.

For instance, if the sharer’s data bundle is a one-month plan meant to expire on the 1st of March 2021, the Data Gifting shared with the beneficiary will also expire on the 1st of March 2021.
