Victor Osimhen Biography
Victor was born on the 29th of December 1998 in Lagos. He’s the son of late Elder Patrick Osimhen. Victor Osimhen is also the last child of his parents and he hails from Edo state.
The talented footballer has a rag to riches story because his family was from a humble background. He even sold sachet water along the road just to provide end means for his survival and schooling. He attended the Olusosun primary school where he found football as a major sport.
Victor Osimhen began his football journey in his school at Olusosun and thanks to his brother, who sacrificed his education just to face his newspaper business to provide for his younger brother and his family. Through his older brother, Andrew Osimhen, Victor Osimhen developed a strong interest and passion for the sport, which was all he needed to kick start his successful football journey.
Early Career
The football genius began his football journey after he was scouted and invited to play for Ultimate strikers in Lagos in the year 2014. With his exceptional performance and passion, he was then invited by Coach Amuneke to play for the Nigerian U17 known as The Golden Eaglets.
The U17 team went to Chile for the U17 FIFA world cup where they did brilliantly well and Victor Osimhen got the opportunity to showcase his talent by scoring 10 goals and winning the FIFA U17 World cup Silver ball. This brought the youngster recognition from international scouter which was very important in an athlete’s career. The likes of Arsenal, Man City, and Tottenham were after the youngster but, he refused the offer and chose to play for the German Bundesliga club, Wolfsburg and the youngster announced this after winning the CAF Youth player of the year.
Although after his signing, Victor Osimhen suffered from injury and sickness which caused him to underperform for two seasons for Wolfsburg and even missed the 2018 FIFA World cup for his country Nigeria.
Career 2017 To Date
After several injuries and sickness, Victor Osimhen’s career finally took a turn for the best when he signed a loan deal for the Belgian club, Charleroi on the 22nd of August 2018. He made his first debut for the club on the 22nd of September 2018 and scored his first goal for the club. Victor Osimhen went on to make 36 game appearances for Charleroi Football scored 20 goals for the club and this made the club to consider a permanent transfer while he was still on loan.
After his brilliant performance in Belgium, Victor Osimhen knew it was time for him to move ahead in his career, so he decided to sign for the French Ligue 1 club, Lille OSC. Also, Victor Osimhen is considered to be the most expensive player who transferred from Nigeria to Germany. The cost of his transfer to Wolfsburg was worth 3.9 million pounds which made the Lagos football club, Ultimate Strikers to make a whopping sum of 1.4 billion Naira.
The Nigerian stars signed for Wolfsburg on a three-year contract, but he was later sent out on loan to Charleroi, then later to Lille OSC. He was signed to Lille OSC on the 11th of July 2019, then the player scored his first goal for the club in the match against Nantes and the club went on to win the match 2-1.
This was just the starting point for the player, as he went on to win the player of the season award and player award for September 2019 having scored two goals and assisted two more in Lille’s five league matches. Victor Osimhen also won the Lille OSC player of the year after securing the highest number of votes from the fans. On the 2nd of October 2019 was the day Victor Osimhen scored his first UEFA Champions League goal against the English club, Chelsea FC, although Lille OSC lost the match 2-1 to Chelsea, though it was a brilliant performance from Victor Osimhem.
We must say that Victor Osimhen is an exceptional talent and he’s going to win the African Player of the year award very soon. On the 31st of October 2020, the Italian Serie A football club, Napoli, signed the African football genius, Victor Osimhen for a club-record fee of €70 million, potentially rising to €80 million with add-ons, making him the most expensive African transfer to date. Then on the 17th October 2020, Osimhen scored his first goal for Napoli in a 4–1 win against Atalanta. Then after his first goal for Napoli, he showcased his jersey showing his support for the end of police brutality in his country.
