University of Ilorin (popular known as Unilorin) is a tertiary institution located in Ilorin, Kwara State. The university is owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The university covers approximately 5,000 hectares of land making it one of the largest university in the country based on the landmass. It was established in 1975 by the decree of the Federal Military Government to implement one of the educational directives of the Third National Development Plan.
Unilorin is the only Federal University not to be a member of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The Vice-Chancellor of the institution is Professor Sulyman Age Abdulkareem.
