The Headies is oftentimes referred to as Nigeria’s Grammy awards. Every year, music lovers and fans in the country are hyped up for this award show.

In this article, we will be showing you how to vote in the headies 2022 award. The Headies is formerly called the “Hip Hop World Awards” and was established by Hip Hop World magazine in 2006. The award show is broadcast live to television viewers by HipTV.

The Headies 2022 is expected to hold at The Sky Restaurant, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. It is a private event that will be broadcast live on Hip TV, the official broadcast partner of the annual ceremony.

Voting is done online at the Headies official website. Below is how you can vote for your favourite artistes

1. Go to www.theheadies.com/nominees-list/
2. You’ll see the award categories eligible for the general public voting and their nominees.
3. Pick your preferred winner for each voting category carefully.
4. After selecting your preferred winner, scroll down and click on submit. And your votes will be inputted to the database.

There are two types of award categories for the Headies Awards. We have the voting categories and the non-voting categories. The voting categories are opened to the general public where they get to vote for their preferred nominees.

While the non-voting categories are not opened to the general public. The non-voting categories are voted by the Headies jury after a technical and in-depth analysis of the nominees.

Headies 2022 Award Categories

Below are the voting categories available to the general public for the Headies 2020 along with what they represent;

1. BEST POP SINGLE: This category is for the best pop single in the year under review.
2. PRODUCER OF THE YEAR: This category is for an individual responsible for producing the most acclaimed song or album in the year under review.
3. BEST REGGAE/DANCEHALL SINGLE: This category is for the best reggae/dancehall single in the year under review either by a single individual or group.
4. BEST R&B/POP ALBUM: This category is for the best R&B/Pop Album in the year under review either by a single individual or group.
5. BEST MUSIC VIDEO: This category is for the best conceptualist, best directed and most exciting video in the year under review. It’s not to appreciate the artiste but rather the video director.
6. BEST R&B SINGLE: This category is for the best R&B single in the year under review either by a single individual or group.
7. BEST COLLABO: This category is for the best R&B, Pop or Hip-Hop collaborative track (including cameos).
8. BEST RAP SINGLE: This category is for a single (released on-air) recording of a rap song.
9. NEXT RATED: This category is for the most promising act in the year under review.
10. HIP HOP WORLD REVELATION: This category is for the best new artist with a debut album adjudged to be outstanding in terms of artistic quality and impact within the year under review.
11. BEST STREET-HOP ARTISTE: This category is for the artiste whose songs are inspired by the streets. Such song should captain lingua, which may also be originated by the artiste and popular on the street.
12. BEST ‘ALTERNATIVE’ SONG: This category is for the artiste whose songs reflect any form or style of music which falls outside the mainstream of recent or past popular musical trends.
13. ALBUM OF THE YEAR: This category is for the best album either by a solo artist or group in the year under review, that meets judges requirements of excellence (songwriting, production, rendition and impact).
14. ARTISTE OF THE YEAR: This category is for the most critically, commercially adjudged and successful artiste in the year under review.
15. SONG OF THE YEAR: This category is for the most popular song in the year under review.
16. AFRICAN ARTISTE: This category is a non-Nigerian award category for an individual African artiste or group with the most outstanding achievement, impact and infiltration into the Nigerian music scene in the year under review.
17. HEADIES’ VIEWER’S CHOICE: This category is to award the fan’s favourite artiste with the most digital tractions (downloads, views, streams) in the year under review.
18. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: This category is for the rookie of the year who has had a successful year musically, with the absence of an album in the year under review.
