Mo Abudu is one of Africa’s most successful women as denoted by Forbes. She is a Nigerian media personality, venture capitalist, entrepreneur, TV producer, and media mogul. Mo abudu is the owner of EbonyLife TV and EbonyLife Films. She also has many other media outlets and business establishments. The Independent and Slate Afrique have compared her to Oprah Winfrey, crowing her with the titles “Africa’s Oprah” and “Nigerian Winfrey” respectively.

Mo Abudu Early Life and Biography

Mo Abudu profile is filled with remarkable achievements but first, we must begin at her origin. Although she is popularly called Mo Abudu, her real name is Mosunmola Abudu. She was born on September 11 in the year 1964 in Hammersmith, London. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Akintude. Thereafter, her parents returned to Nigeria where she did her primary school education at Fiwayage Girl’s Grammar School. Later on, she moved back to the UK.

She holds dual citizenship. However, she originally hails from Ondo town in Ondo State. Mo Abudu spent her early years in London. There, she had her secondary and tertiary educations at Ridgeway School, MidKent College, West Kent College, and the University of Westminister. She also holds a Masters’ degree in Human Resource Management from the same University.

Unfortunately, before the end of her secondary school education, Mo Abudu’s father passed away.

Mo Abudu began on the professional scene as a recruitment consultant in 1987. At the time, she worked with Atlas Recruitment Consultancy firm UK before moving onto Starform Group, also in the UK. Later on, she joined Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (Now Exxon Mobil) as the Head of the Human Resources Training Unit.

Ebony Life TV was the first black entertainment and lifestyle global network in 2013. The formidable media platform cuts across 49 countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and the UK. The show was first developed in 2006 but only began to broadcast across the globe in 2013. EbonyLife TV is a subsidiary of Media and Entertainment City Africa (MEC Africa). The platform began broadcasting on MultiChoice DSTV before moving on to Star Times Network that same year. The show largely broadcasts entertainment, talk shows, original drama and many more. In 2018, Ebony Life TV took on new initiatives including EbonyLife ON in Africa, Video-On-Demand (VOD) and 3 other deals with Sony Pictures Television.

Mo Abudu also established EbonyLife Films. One of her first film productions as a part of the ELFIKE Film Collective, which was equally a successful one was the 2016 movie, The Wedding Party. EbonyLife Films was created to tell African stories in unique and original ways. Her original debut movie production was “Fifty”. The story was about four friends living in Lagos, who at the peak of their careers where forced by events to embrace their personal lives while carrying the weight of family and career.

Other movies produced by EbonyLife Films include “The Royal Hibiscus Hotel,” “The Wedding Party 2” and many more.

Mo Abudu profile is never complete without the story of the first every syndicated daily talk show” Moments with Mo.” Mo Abudu was the host and executive producer of this phenomenal TV Talk show, which has aired thousands of episodes spanning across topics from lifestyle, culture, tradition, health and many more. The show has hosted many international celebrities and very important personalities including the 67th US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton. The show currently airs across 48 African Countries on Cable TV. It was the success of this show that brought about the comparisons labeling her “Africa’s Oprah.”

Mo Abudu has also created several mediums to give back to society. One of such is the foundation, The Inspire Africa Foundation.” This non-profit organization raises funds for implementing diverse societal transformation initiatives. In 2009, the foundation hosted a charity concert geared towards raising funds to provide basic amenities for the children on the streets.

The organization has also collaborated with Monero Constructions to create a one-hundred-bed home for street children in Lagos and a charity store branded “The Designer Outlet for Charity.”
