The Federal Government later amended the institution in 2007 to enhance its statutory activities of the civil defence. In 1970, the institution metamorphosed and they were be stalled with the duty of organizing enlightenment campaigns and preparing the citizen for war because they were fully ignorant of how war works.  The institution took it upon themselves to educate the populace on how enemy attacks can happen, how to protect themselves from air raids, bombs, and how to dive into trenches when necessary. In other to educate the populace, the Civil Defence made use of electronic and print media. More so, the Nigerian Civil Defence was initially known as the Lagos Civil Defence Committee.   • Protection of lives and properties: the Civil Defence is to be stalled with the primary duty to protect the lives and properties of Nigerian citizens. This can be referred to as their number one obligation because it is the reason or their establishment.
  • Protection of pipelines vandalism: Aside from protecting lives and properties, the Civil Defence is also in charge of the protection of pipeline from vandalism, that is to say, they help to prevent damage of pipeline for oil and other liquid product, from people will destroy it.
  • Maintenance of Peace and order: this is another crucial duty of the Civil Defence. They do their best amicably to ensure that there are peace and orderliness within the country, to promote strength and unity.
  • A routine check on private guard companies: The Nigeria Civil Defence has the authority to check up on private guard companies to check and ensure that they are carrying out their duties effectively.
  • Power to arrest: the Civil Defence can arrest any suspect that has been found involved in criminal activities,  chemical poisoning, oil spillage, nuclear waste, and dirty crimes.

Now that we know about civil defence and its roles, it is important to know the ranks and the salary Structure of the Civil Defence. The Nigeria Civil Defence has the same thing the Nigerian Police and other military forces. In the Nigeria Civil Defence, the payment structure is dependent on the certificate /qualification of the individual involved in the institution. The higher your qualification the better your pay grade. Which means education is a pivotal key in the Civil Defence. It’s just designed in such a way that if you are an HND holder, you are placed on level 7, if you are a BSc holder, you are placed on level 8, then if you are a master degree holder, you are placed on level 9. The Nigeria Civil Defence is open to all and aspiring candidates go online to apply. More so,  aside from the salary structure for the corps stated above.
