How to Change BVN Number And Date of Birth
Know the circumstances
First of all, you must understand the circumstances where you must change your BVN number and date of birth. If you, for some reason, forgot the date of birth you used to open your BVN, then you have to change it. If you have any reason to change the date of birth with your personal accounts, then you must change the BVN number.
These two details are the key aspects of your BVN registration, alongside details like your gender, and biometric prints. Your biometric prints will remain unchanged, but gender too can be a huge problem.
And there is only one way to remedy your BVN number change, date of the birth change, and gender change – that system is by visiting the Bank where you first enrolled for BVN or any bank branch where you have an existing account.
Find the present BVN number
Now you need to find and copy down your present BVN number. You can find it by dialing *565*0# using the mobile number that you registered with at the onset. Alternatively, you can find your BVN number by checking your profile information on your Bank’s mobile app. For instance, you can find it in the UBA Mobile App, after clicking on your profile photo.
If you are also using the GTBank account, then you can dial *737*6*1# on your registered GTB mobile number to check your BVN number.
Once you have the BVN number, copy the code down on paper and proceed to check your BVN Date of birth and other information at the Bank.
Requirements to update and correct BVN details
Now to make corrections to your BVN details, here are the things you must go with you:
- To change BVN date of birth: Come along with your birth certificate
- When you need to change names or other details due to marriage: Go with your Marriage certificate
- To change your name and phone number: Go with your national identity card, voter’s card, or international passport that shows your correct name.
- To change gender: Simply present yourself in your “true colors,” and they will pick the right one for you.
When you have all of these requirements, you can take it to the Bank to get your BVN number and date of birth, or any other details changed.

Visit the Bank where you first enrolled or where you have bank accounts
Every Bank has its unique system, but usually, the BVN number change is done at the Customer Care Help Desk. Simply go to the desk to ask if you want to make these changes. You will be asked to pick up the BVN change form, where you will fill in your number and state what you want to be changed. If you cannot remember the number or have lost your mobile phone attached, your customer care representative will help you figure out the next steps. Although I stand to be corrected, I do think such a process will have to do with your biometrics.
Please note that no one can change your BVN number or other BVN details on your behalf. You have to be present to do such changes. There are always exceptions to every rule, so speak to your Bank. You can check your BVN number using the *565*0# on your Airtel, MTN, Glo, and 9Mobile. Regardless of your choice, they will deduct a charge of N20 from your bank account. Subsequently, you will receive 11 digits as an SMS to your registered number.
